Thursday, 14 September 2017 @ Anglesea Barracks
Tasmania has a proud military history. It dates back to our establishment as a penal colony in 1803, through various war campaigns and military interventions; involvement in vital peace-keeping operations; and as part of the local response to natural disasters.
Why not join us as we explore this history together at the Army Museum Tasmania.
Based at the early and historic Anglesea Barracks, the Army Museum Tasmania is home to a unique collection of the artefacts, records, uniforms and stories that reflect Tasmania's and Tasmanian's engagement in army operations for over 200 years, here and abroad.
This evening will provide us with an opportunity to find out more about the role the Barracks has played as a base for the army in Tasmania since 1814, find out more about the features it contains and the role this historic precinct continues to fulfil to the present day.
You will be exposed to 2nd half of 6 bob a day (Tasmania's WW1 images), our training areas, peacekeeping, women in service, medal collection, Vietnam, Tasmanian Governors, colonial Tasmania and, if we're lucky, we'll get to check-out it's fascinating uniform store.
The evening will start promptly at 6.00PM. You can enter the site through the main entrance on Davey Street, just below the SoHo. Drive up the main drive, past the Museum (about 200 metres), park and come and join us in the two story Georgian building on the left.
This event is expected to conclude by 7.30pm. If you're interested, please RSVP, noting you have an option to join us at SoHo for a drink or bite to eat (at your expense). If you are interested in this optional extra then please indicate when you register and we'll book you a seat. I suggest you get in early, as spots are limited.
You can register to attend on our website here now.
Also, don't forget to mark our AGM in your diary for Thursday, 28 September 2017 (6.00pm - 8.00pm. This will be an important opportunity for us to reflect on our direction as an organisation, so please join us for this workshop and AGM, over pizza and a casual drink.
