The TMAGgots run quirky, unique & fun events that help us to experience the arts, history, culture, heritage and the sciences in new & interesting ways. We just do things differently and proudly declare ourselves "culture vultures". Check us out & come to an event sometime ..

What the ...?

The TMAGgots are a small not-for-profit volunteer-run community organisation with the sole aim of connecting people with the arts, culture, history, heritage and science through the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and other places. If you like things a little bit different, a little bit quirky, then you'll love what we do!

We hold regular events throughout the year, usually in Hobart and it's immediate surrounds, which are based on exhibitions or happenings at the TMAG, and events or activities of appeal elsewhere. Join us for some hearty cultural gluttony...

out for ...

Welcome to 2016.  We hope that you've had a terrific summer so far & are ready for an interesting, stimulating and enjoyable year.

We're enjoying a bit of down-time at TMAGgots-central, but never fear we have some great things in store ..

Watch out for our first event for 2016, which is a Valentine's Day garden party in the ground of historic Narryna.

We're also working-up a terrific event that will help us explore the historic Bay Villas of New Town, following on from our very popular visit to the Cornelian Bay boat sheds in 2015.

Another event option being explored is a visit to the magnificent Dorney house on Porter Hill (Fort Nelson) on the sky-line, high above Sandy Bay.

We're also in discussion with our partners at TMAG to arrange Into the Vaults #2, given the numbers of members who were keen to get to explore the TMAG's Rosny collection storage and research facility.

You had also better start boning-up on your trivia, as the TMAGgots start to prepare for their terrific annual Quiz Night, held each May, in the awesome Central Gallery.

So watch out for what else we have in store for you in 2016.  Here's a reminder of some of the great things we did in 2015 ..

  • explored six of the private historic boatsheds at Cornelian Bay;
  • been guided through the Patrick Hall exhibition by the artist himself;
  • sketched the wild and kooky of the TMAG collection;
  • seen what one artist can do with 43,000 pegs and had a behind-the-scenes tour of Moonah Arts Centre (MAC);
  • quizzed ourselves silly at our Annual Quiz and raised some much-needed dosh for the Nepalese Earthquake Appeal;
  • learned to detect the BS* with Glow Girl and Scibabe (*bad science!);
  • Done some etchings at our great Life Drawing event; and
  • hosted a great year end gig, with live music and a French wedding cake on our 10th birthday.

Do get in touch if you have a cool event idea that you'd like to see happen or (even better) join us and help us make them happen for you and others to enjoy.
